Automated install

TDM Professional supports an automated installation mode. With this, a USB media device is used to set a custom policy, lock screen and administrator passphrases, install apps and copy files to the internal storage area of the device.

Preparing a USB device

You will need a FAT32 formatted USB media device. In the root directory of the device, place the following files:

  • The policy file, named policy.tdm. You can create this using the Backup Policy menu item in TDM

  • A text file named user, containing a single line: the lock screen PIN or passphrase.

  • A text file named admin, containing a single line of text: the administrator’s PIN or passphrase.

  • Android applications (.apk files) to be installed. Applications outside of the root directory will not be installed or copied to the device.

  • Files, directories and sub-directories that should be copied into the internal storage area.

Install

During the TDM Setup Wizard, after activating with a Professional Edition licence, you’ll be prompted to choose between automated or manual install:

  1. Select Load all configuration and applications from USB media and press Continue.

  2. On some versions of Android, you’ll be prompted to grant TDM permission to transfer files. Press Go to Settings.

  3. At the All files access Settings screen, toggle Allow access to manage all files.

  4. Hit the back button (or use the back gesture).

  5. Press the Continue button.

  6. You will be prompted to allow TDM access to the USB media. Press OK.

  7. The progress bar will indicate app installation and file copying progress.

If the policy.tdm, user or admin files are missing, the Setup Wizard will stop and warn you.
