Overview

TDM differs from traditional device management solutions in that in provides the means to change a device’s security policy from the device itself. Administrators can adapt the devices to needs of their mission as the situation evolves without remote network connectivity.

Administration tasks

This guide is split into the administrator’s anticipated needs:

  • Changing policies. Used to enable or disable device and security features, configuration permissions, support messages and password policies.

  • Installing apps. Guidance to temporarily relaxing security policies to permit the installation of apps from various sources.

  • Hiding apps. Used to disable (uninstallable) system apps or potentially to temporarily prevent a user from access to an installed app (without uninstalling it).

  • Backing up and restoring policies. Administrators can tailor the example policies and save the changes to a file, then load them on other devices.

  • Remote SMS wipe. Where devices are equipped with cellular connectivity (public or private), SMS messages can be used to remotely wipe the device.
